Life Membership for Lyn Scott
Lyn Scott has been recognised with a Life Membership on Thursday 14 December 2023.
Lyn has grown up with lawn bowls in her veins. Her parents both played bowls for Katandra West and Lyn always says that her Mum & Dad pushed the salt and pepper shakers around the table replaying their games whilst she and her brother Wally wondered what it was all about. All this did not deter Lyn from learning to bowl and around 2010 she was encouraged by Pamela Hueston to come & play business bowls at East Shepparton Bowls Club of a Tuesday night even though she lived in Mooroopna.
It wasn’t long before Lyn joined the East Shepparton Bowls Club as a full member and player. After only being a member for a year the then Board must have seen her work ethics and they asked her to stand for the Board of Directors. Lyn was elected and she remained on the Board for a total of 11 years. During this time she held the positions of Vice President, Catering Officer & also did the minutes when the Secretary was unavailable. A huge commitment!
Lyn has also served as a mid week selector & as our Sponsorship Director for many years. Lyn has pounded the footpaths of Shepparton & Mooroopna asking for sponsorship or donations for raffles, oaks days or tournaments and rarely does Lyn get refused. She has a way with people.
Lyn also designs and prints our flyers and notices for events as well as all those little signs you see around the club, such as “this is not a self clean kitchen”, “no bags through the club”, how to do roster duty and so on. She also makes all the raffle books for the Xmas raffle and all the tickets for our social events. This saves the club an enormous amount on commercial printing.
Lyn is currently our Catering Director taking over from Lorraine Henderson 3 years ago. We all know the great meals she and her catering committee organise for our members meetings, Xmas parties, tournaments, GV functions, funeral wakes & our social events. Also if Lyn is not playing bowls you will often find her at the club helping in the bar or cleaning up after the afternoon tea break saving the duty teams a lot of work.
Lyn is famous for her lists of how to do tasks & the catering ladies all look for Lyn’s lists whenever they are on duty. Also whilst Lyn was on the Board you could always be sure Lyn would have a list of things to discuss & organise all of which had to be completed before the meeting could close.
Another task Lyn does is Club Clothing Officer making sure we have sufficient uniforms for all our different shapes and sizes & new members. Lyn also supports our club games with her entries, or as a spectator and she organises movie & lunch days for the ladies as a break from bowls and she tries to support our sponsors for these outings.
There are not many positions Lyn has not done at our club so it is appropriate Lyn is recognised with her Life Membership to the East Shepparton Bowls Club, reflecting the appreciation of the Club for her continued efforts. Congratulations Lyn!
